Seed Starting Workshop | Long-Growth Flowers
Step away from the doldrums of winter and into the quiet tranquility of our greenhouse for an intimate evening of planning and planting your own specialty cut flower garden.
Guests will be welcomed into our winter growing space to gather over warm tea and light conversation before receiving guided instruction on growing and maintaining a cut flower garden, led by our owner and lead floral designer. There will be ample time for open Q&A, followed by hands-on planting. The workshop will take place on February 25th at 6:30pm and will run for approximately two hours.
Each registrant will select and plant a total of 80 seedlings from our curated collection of specialty cut flower varieties to take home at the end of the evening. This workshop will focus on long-growth cut flowers- including bells of Ireland, celosia, dianthus, feverfew, gomphrena, grasses, larkspur, rudbeckia, scabiosa, and snapdragons- which require approximately 7–10 weeks to grow and establish before being planted outdoors after our last spring frost in late April/early May.
All supplies and instruction are included, along with soil blocking materials and light refreshments. This workshop is beginner-friendly, and no prior growing experience is required. To ensure success after the workshop, participants should plan to have a bright, sunny window or access to a simple grow light to care for seedlings as they grow indoors for several weeks. A small amount of garden space (or large containers) will also be needed for planting in late spring. Our instructional time will include approachable guidance and practical, manageable tips for setting your seedlings up for their best life beyond the workshop- no special or expensive equipment required.
Class size is intentionally limited to six guests to ensure a relaxed, supportive, and personalized experience for each participant. Additional details, including parking information, what to wear, and greenhouse guidelines, will be emailed to all registrants one week prior to the workshop.
Please note: While we provide high-quality seeds, thorough instruction, and detailed care guidance, germination rates and the long-term success of seedlings are ultimately dependent on individual growing conditions and care following the workshop. Flowers From 12th cannot be held liable for seedling performance after the event. That said, we are always happy to serve as a resource—printed care instructions will be provided, and registrants are welcome to reach out via email for additional guidance or troubleshooting as their seedlings grow.
